WA Police Patrons Scheme
The Recruit Squad Patron Scheme was introduced to the Western Australia Police in October 2000. The scheme provides recruits-in-training with access to a respected member of the community who can provide a community expectation of policing, and provide appropriate personal advice and guidance.
The Recruit Squad Patrons are all volunteers from the members of the OAA WA Branch. They make themselves available to the recruits during their 28 weeks training course. The background and guidelines for the scheme are outlined in the Link.
Careers Guidance Program
This OAA WA program started by assisting Kings College, Kwinana, with its “Aspirational Career Guidance Program” for its pre-Year 10 students. The State Training Board and various Industry Training Councils supported the program.
The success of the initial program encouraged the three schools Pilot Program in 2016. With the advice of the Kwinana Industries Council and the subsequent delivery of a firm proposal to its Schools’ Principals Group, three schools participated.
The program is complete and has been incorporated as a set of career development and transition tools at the following link on the WA Department of Training and Workforce Development web site. http://www.careercentre.dtwd.wa.gov.au/Practitioners/Pages/SchoolZone.aspx
