Ian McKnight OAM has a long history with the Victoria Police Force in several metro and country police stations in the 1960s.
Ian was appointed a Police Welfare Officer in 1978, working in a small specialized group, covering the whole of the State. This role involved being on call 24 hours a day in case of emergencies involving police members: accidents, injuries, deaths, and dealing with officers and their families who had fallen on hard times.
Ian received his OAM in June 2013 for his long community service, and involvement in lawn bowls including as deputy president of the Royal New South Wales Bowling Association and State President of the Association from 2009 to 2012.
He is the Newsletter editor for the Order of Australia Association NSW Branch.
